Dr Shantanu Lahkar is a very well renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon in North East Region and hails from a humble family from Guwahati. He completed his MBBS from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh in 1973 securing 5th Position in merit and did his M.S. (Orthopaedics) from AIIMS, New Delhi in 1978. He was also a Fellow of Indo-German Orthopaedics Foundation, Germany and underwent training in Trauma from Germany in 1996.

He served as Head of the Department (Orthopaedics) of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. Post Graduate course in Orthopaedics at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh was also started by  Dr Shantanu Lahkar.

He joined s Club of Dibrugarh in 1983. Served as Club President, Zone Chairman, District Chairperson more than 15 years. He also extended 4 new s Club. He also organized District Conference (JOYCON-2009) at Dibrugarh.

Dr Shantanu Lahkar has also been associated with other Organizations. He is the founder member of Shishu Bahrati Institute of Professional Education. He is the Executive Member of Rehabilitation Council of India, Government of India. He is the President of Indian Medical Association, Dibrugarh Branch. He is also the Vice-President of Indian Red Cross Society, Dibrugarh. He is the Vice-President of Indian Orthopaedic Rheumatology Association. He is the Life Member and Param Hitoishi Member and Secretary of Assam Sahitya Sabha (Dibrugarh Anchalik Karyalaya).

As a  Lion Member,  Dr Shantanu Lahkar has been the recipient of many awards. He was the recipient of DG Appreciation Award for organizing Camps for the handicapped in 2001-02, recipient of Excellent District Chairman Award in 2003-04, recipient of Outstanding President Award in all categories in 2008-09, recipient of Outstanding Chairperson of 30th Annual District Conference in 2008-09, recipient of Outstanding DC award for Polio Corrective Surgery in 2008-09, recipient of Outstanding President Award in 2009-10 and Recipient of International President Appreciation Certificates.

Dr Shantanu Lahkar, MJF has been blessed with a wonderful family. His elder daughter,  Dr Shanta Lahkar Kapoor is the first female Orthopaedic Surgeon from Assam and is married to  Amit Kapoor.  Amit Kapoor is the present CEO of Archana Trauma and
Orthoapedics Hospital, Dibrugarh.

His younger daughter  Miss Rhea Lahkar is pursuing her Masters from Bangalore University. He is also blessed with two grandchildren. His wife Late  Archana Lahkar was also a dedicated  and supported  Dr Shantanu Lahkar throughout his journey.
